DNF @20%. I couldn't do it. I tried multiple times to finish it, but it was just as bad as the first one. The main character was too boring to be able to follow. I mean, come on. After what happened in the first two chapters? That is the way you decide to react?!

I wouldn't have requested this one had I read the first one before...but no I requested them at the same time. Good luck to those of you who want to read it...this one just wasn't for me.

Operation One Night Stand: Christine Hughes

This book was great! Caroline was amazing (after she got out of self-pity mode) and one hell of a go-getter. When she first walks to the bartender (Brian) and starts the witty drink orders...I cracked up. Seriously. The pair of them were enough to give me side aches.

This book reminded me of a rom-com movie...at least that was the way it played out in my head. Caroling at her spinning class the day after spending the night with Ryan (Brian's roommate and friend) had me laughing out loud at work.

The interactions between Brian and Caroline were my favorite (of course, they are the cutest couple) but Caroline and her friends were also amusing. Her girlfriends are the best ones a girl could ask for. They intervened when she was sitting on a couch eating an ice cream flavor named after her. They pushed her to get back out into the "one night stand" game. They supported her with whatever she was going through. Amazing best friends.

Brian was cute. He respected the lines that Caroline drew, and her relationship with Ryan. I liked the way his sister was introduced into the story, and brought Brian and Caroline closer together. The ending of this one wasn't exactly an HEA. So be warned.

This wan't too long of a book, but it was a nice break from pure smut books with no plot. This one had a plot that was a typical romance book, but it was still so sweet! The only thing I didn't like about this book is that I felt that the intern was slut-shamed too much. As far as I could tell, she was a bit of a homewrecker, but this was the first time she had done it. Oh well, at least Caroline finally moved on from the whole ordeal.

I hope that this author goes on with some of the characters. I will be keeping an eye on this author for new books!

Fire and Ice: A. M. Hartnett

Having recently read Cross My Heart by the same author, I do think that this book was much, much better. Mick was adorable. He was a big, tough, Russian hockey player. Who had absolutely no idea what was going on half the time. 

Julia was a bit too innocent for my taste, especially after she finally caves to Mick. She had hot sweaty sex and still acted the confused virgin. But she knew what she wanted, and finally grew enough balls to go and get it.

I liked the fact that this book had a timeline, and the characters grew to knew each other (although pretty quickly). The timeline also made sense, and didn't seem disjointed. They were a pretty cute couple, and had amazing chemistry.

This was a pretty short read, packed with sex. For those of you looking for a break from what you're currently reading, this one would be perfect.

Cross My Heart: A. M. Hartnett

At first this book grabbed my attention. I was excited for something new, a lot smutty.

But as it went on, I just really lost interest. It was hard to get through, after about the first ten percent. There was drama and awkward encounters that just did nothing for me. Basically, it got weird and the characters got annoying. A bad combination.

The way the book ended wasn't the way I wanted it to. For those of you who enjoy all smut, with little to no plot, this one is for you!

The Calling: Louise White

I liked this book more and more as it went on. Admittedly, it started out pretty slow, and a lot confusing. But as the book went on, the author explained what was going on, what went on, and then it all finally made sense.

Carolyn was an interesting character. However I prefer Note. Note was quite hilarious when being introduced to the human world. But after that he was just adorable. He looked after Carolyn, he protected her, and he loved her.

I'm still kinda confused about Ethan and the Protectorate... Their role was a bit murky. As was the introduction of the soul surfer. I hope that is explained a bit more in the second book.

I really liked the world that the author has created. I felt like this was a breath of fresh air plot-wise. Each of the realms that Carolyn and her companions explored was different, with different demons, and different landscapes and cultures. The underlying complexity in the novel was brilliant. The protectorate was trying to get Carolyn, Carolyn was trying to enter gateways and take out demons while watching out for Note. Note claimed Carolyn while training so that he would be able to travel with her.

Which is confusing.

Overall, the book was pretty well written. I loved the characters, even though there were a lot of them to follow. The ending of this book was a big cliffhanger. Be warned. But now I can't wait to read the next one!

Engage: Erica Crouch

So I have had this book in my to-read section for a couple of months and just recently finished it. And if I'm being honest, I've been putting it off because I just really don't want this series to end; that is how good these books are. I am in love with all of the characters, and their backgrounds, and pretty much everything they do.

In this novella, we get Kala and Ana's backstory. Kala and Ana were introduced during the second book; but now that I know more about them, they are the cutest couple ever. 

No really, they are. The way that they protect each other. Kala quite literally when they are trying to escape heaven. They meet each other every night to talk and kiss and cuddle. I just...

I love them. 

And I know that this was a novella, but it was too short. Everything that happened felt so rushed. Like it happened one day after the other, no getting to know you period at all. I would like to have seen a bit more planning for what Kala and Ana were going to do. I also would like to have seen a bit more on what happened after they fell. The creation of  New Genesis. What the demon that "Mulan" talked to ended up doing.

Overall, it was a well-written and welcome addition to the story. This isn't a necessary read to understand the books, but I recommend it.

Take the Fall: Marquita Valentine

As a fan of Abbi Glines, I was excited, because this was supposed to be similar to her writing style...I think I saw it maybe twice but other than that it was kind of a nope for me. Both Seth and Rowan have had time to move on, grow up, and get over everything that happened so long ago. And yet they hardly ever talk about it.

In fact, they don't communicate with each other at all, about anything. Or maybe that was just the way it seems. But if that was their idea of working things out, then someone needs to shout as loud as possible at them

It got me so frustrated that it was hard to read.

But other aspects of the book were great. Seth was a likable character. He was trying to makeup for the time he lost with Rowan and the time he spent being such an ass to her. I liked that he tried, but he kept saying how he wanted to try earlier, but things never worked out with the timing. I call bullshit. He could have written her a freaking letter. Or, oh, I don't know, maybe actually READ ONE OF HER LETTERS!! But he figures his shit out by the end and it works out.

Rowan tried to act maturely, but men suck and made her go all crazy (I think, it was either that or she got fed up with his bullshit). I liked that Rowan finally tried to move on with her life and make a good career and start up her own company to help others. She cracked me up with all the guys in the shop. She ran a pretty strict place, and no one messed with her, because they respected her.

Her role in this book was slightly non-traditional, working on cars and running the shop. But it worked well for her and I enjoyed having a heroine who knew what she wanted.

The writing was pretty well done, but this was just another romance set in a modern world. The characters had lots of great story and depth, but I thought it was telling that I was more interested in two specific side characters more than Seth and Rowan. Great book, perfect for a short beach read or when you have a couple hours to spare and need some chick lit.
